Rio Ferdinand: Liverpool FC need to make this signing
The Man United legend wants Liverpool FC to sign an organiser at the back in the January transfer window
Rio Ferdinand has told Jurgen Klopp to go out and make a Liverpool defensive signing with a big personality to organise his back four.
The Reds squandered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Sevilla in the Champions League in Spain on Tuesday night to miss out on the chance to qualify for the round of 16 with a game to spare.
Liverpool conceded one goal in four games in comfortable victories over Huddersfield Town, Maribor, West Ham and Southampton before their setback in Sevilla.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s men have conceded 17 times in 12 games, which is poor defensive record in comparison to their title rivals about them in the table.
Liverpool were heavily linked with a move to sign Southampton club captain Virgil van Dijk in the summer transfer window but the Reds couldn’t get a deal over the line.
The Merseyside outfit were unable to sign the Netherlands international despite the centre-half handing in a transfer request in the final month of the transfer window.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand offered Klopp some advice in terms of what kind of centre-half Liverpool need to sign.
“I don’t care who you go and get. They’ve got to get someone with personality,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“They’re lacking a leader within that back four. Someone in there who at half-time would tell people where to be.
“They need someone in there who is going to say: ‘I am the man here’. They have too many followers. They’re looking to the manager rather than someone on the pitch.”
