John Aldridge believes Liverpool FC will consider entering the January transfer market if a top-four place looks in doubt.
The Reds have made an inconsistent start to the Premier League season following a return of 18 points from their opening 11 games.
Liverpool FC have conceded 17 times in the Premier League so far, with Jurgen Klopp’s men letting in 16 goals in five away games in the top flight.
The Merseyside outfit have won their last three games in all competitions, including a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town and a 4-1 win at West Ham.
Liverpool FC started the next round of Premier League fixtures in fifth place and four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
Former Liverpool FC striker Aldridge believes Klopp will look to do some business in the January transfer window if his current crop can’t keep the Reds involved in the top-four race.
“It’s also a chance for players to prove their worth,” Aldridge told Liverpool Echo.
“Once January comes, we’ll start assessing the squad again and whether it’s both big enough and good enough. Being in the top four answers both of those questions.”
The Reds were 3-0 winners against Southampton in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth spot in the Premier League table last term t secure a place in the Champions League in 2017-18 season.
The Reds signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Hull City defender Andy Robertson and Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke.
