Michael Owen: Jurgen Klopp can easily fix Liverpool FC problems
The Liverpool FC legend believes Jurgen Klopp shouldn't find it too hard to fix their defensive problems
Michael Owen believes Jurgen Klopp isn’t facing a difficult task improving Liverpool’s defence despite their well documented struggles over the past few months.
The Reds suffered the humiliation of discarding a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with La Liga side Sevilla in the Champions League in Spain on Tuesday night.
Liverpool have conceded 17 times in 12 games in the Premier League so far this season to raise concerns about their defensive frailties.
The Merseyside outfit attempted to sign Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in the summer transfer window but were unable to get a deal over the line.
Liverpool’s failure to add a new centre-half to their ranks has attracted a lot of criticism, with Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip have all struggled this term.
The 18-time English champions have struggled defensively since Jamie Carragher’s retirement in 2013.
Former Liverpool striker Owen believes one positive is Klopp needs to improve his defence rather than solve a goal-scoring issue.
“The positive is Liverpool’s attack,” Owen told BT Sport.
“One of the hardest things is to have brilliance going forward. Liverpool have all of that.
”A bit of organization and maybe one or two players in there. It is an easier thing to remedy rather than up front.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a spot in the Champions League.
