Liverpool FC will sign top 26-year-old in January transfer window, claims Mark Lawrenson
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool FC to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in January
Mark Lawrenson has hinted Virgil van Dijk will become a Liverpool FC player in January.
The Netherlands international was linked with a move to the Reds throughout the summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.
Indeed, Liverpool FC were forced to issue an apology to Southampton for their pursuit of the 26-year-old centre-half and officially ended their interest in the stylish Dutch defender.
However, Liverpool FC’s statement didn’t stop continued transfer gossip linking Van Dijk with a move to Anfield after the former Celtic defender handed in a transfer request at St Mary’s.
Liverpool FC have conceded 17 goals in 12 games in the Premier League this season, while the Reds have also let in nine goals in seven Champions League outings.
Van Dijk was caught out last weekend as Liverpool FC eased to resounding 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield in the Premier League at Anfield.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson appeared to drop a hint that Van Dijk will become a Reds player in the January transfer window.
“He knows there is work to be done,” Lawrenson told Newstalk.
“Maybe if not in January, next year. Van Dijk will come and sign for Liverpool. They will improve.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
