Liverpool FC set to ‘pounce’ to sign 26-year-old in January – report
Liverpool FC are poised to make a fresh move to sign Virgil van Dijk in January, say reports
Liverpool FC are set to “pounce” to sign Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window – but could now face competition from Manchester City, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Reds are keen to reignite their interest in the Netherlands defender after having failed to land him in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC were heavily linked with a move to sign Van Dijk early in the summer but were forced to publicly withdraw their interest after they were accused of an alleged illegal approach by Southampton.
However, with the January transfer window drawing nearer, there is already fresh speculation suggesting that the Reds could swoop in the coming weeks.
The same report says that Van Dijk has “indicated to friends” that he has his heart set on a transfer to Anfield.
However, the story also claims that the move could be complicated as Manchester City are now pondering defensive signings following John Stones’ hamstring injury.
Liverpool FC were 3-0 winners over Van Dijk’s Southampton side on Saturday as Jurgen Klopp’s men kept to within 12 points of leaders Manchester City.
The Reds are currently preparing for their Champions League trip to Sevilla on Tuesday night.
