Virgil van Dijk breaks silence after failed Liverpool FC transfer
Virgil van Dijk breaks his silence about his situation after he was linked with Liverpool FC in the summer
Virgil van Dijk has refused to comment on his failed transfer to Liverpool FC in the summer as he insisted that his focus is only on Southampton.
The Netherlands centre-half was heavily linked with a move to Anfield during the summer months but a move failed to materialise for the defender.
Liverpool’s interest in the player was confirmed back in June when they were forced to issue a public statement apologising to Southampton after the south coast club accused them of an alleged illegal approach.
The Reds issued a statement apologising to Southampton and also confirmed that they were dropping their interest in the player.
Van Dijk was clearly keen on a move to Anfield and he handed in a transfer request at Southampton in a bid to try and force a switch, but the Saints held firm and kept hold of the defender.
Now, the defender has spoken about his situation but refused to be drawn into commenting on the speculation linking him with Liverpool.
Van Dijk is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “Firstly, I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment on anything that happened before.
“But I am giving 100 per cent for the club. I work hard every day, I help my team-mates, I’m positive and I want to win every game.
“I am happy and that’s the most important thing so we will just see what happens.”
There is bound to be fresh speculation linking Liverpool with a big-money bid to sign Van Dijk as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
