Jurgen Klopp gives latest Liverpool injury update on Sadio Mane
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals Sadio Mane could be ready for 20-25 minutes at West Ham on Saturday afternoon
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Sadio Mane could make a surprise return to the Liverpool team at West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
The Senegal international has been sidelined since suffering a knee problem during Senegal’s 2-0 win against Cape Verde in their World Cup qualifier last month.
Mane returned to first-team training two weeks head of schedule on Thursday after Liverpool were 3-0 winners against Maribor in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The 25-year-old made a brilliant start to the season after scoring three goals in three games before the winger was controversially sent off in a 5-0 loss at Manchester City.
Mane struggled to rekindle his goal-scoring form upon his return from suspension before the £30m summer signing succumbed to a hamstring problem.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Liverpool’s trip to West Ham United on Saturday evening, Klopp said:
“Sadio trained yesterday, the first time with the team, and looked really, really good. We will see what we do with that.
“Yesterday it looked like he was ready for 20-25 minutes but we have to wait to see how his body reacts to the session.”
Mane has scored three goals in five games in the Premier League to make a decent start to the 2017-18 season.
The Senegalese forward has also made an assist in two Champions League outings.
Liverpool signed Mane in a big-money deal from Southampton in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit finished in the top four last term.
