Romelu Lukaku has promised Manchester United fans that he will continue to work hard to prove himself as the man to lead the line at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old has made a strong start to life at Old Trafford after signing for the Red Devils from Everton in the summer transfer window.

Lukaku has scored seven goals in his first 10 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils to help Jose Mourinho’s men up to second place in the table.

The striker has come under criticism in recent weeks, however, following his failure to score in his last six outings for the Red Devils.

But the Belgian forward insists that he is determined to put in the hard work and prove himself as capable of being Manchester United’s main forward at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lukaku said: “I really want to be a guy that consistently improves and works.

“That’s the only way I know. I know I have a lot of talent and can score goals with my left foot, right foot or head. But I want to be a creator, I want more assists, I want to make sure when my team is in difficulty they can count on me.

“At the end of the day, I want to be a winner. I am on the perfect stage and at the perfect age where I take my career to the next level. The process is going to come with ups and downs and I accept that. I know football is not up, up, up.

“If you look at my stats and the way I perform, I think year after year I have become better. That’s something I want to keep going. I accept criticism from the manager, from you, from the Belgium manager, critics can only help me become a better player.”

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Red Devils head into that game in second place in the Premier League table and five points behind Pep Guardiola’s pace-setters.

Manchester United have not won the title since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
