Nemanja Matic is convinced that Manchester United still have what it takes to win the Premier League title this season – despite Manchester City’s flying start.

The Red Devils have been looking to keep pace with Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders, with the Citizens having been the standout team in the top flight this term.

Manchester United are much improved this season following their disappointing sixth-placed finish in Jose Mourinho’s first campaign in charge last term.

However, Mourinho’s men look like they are going to face some task in trying to catch Manchester City in the race for the title.

But despite Manchester United facing a seemingly difficult task in stopping the Citizens, Matic, who signed from Chelsea in the summer, appears to be convinced that the Red Devils are still very much in the title race.

Matic is quoted as saying by Metro: “If we were to win the league it would be a very big deal, not only for me but for the club and the fans as well.

“I’m going to do everything I can to make that happen. The fans can at least expect that I will give absolutely everything in every game. I will always give 100 per cent.

“Let’s see what we can achieve together, however, I think we can go far.

“It’s difficult to make promises in football. I can’t promise that we’ll win the league. However, I can promise that I will give 100 per cent and we’ll see how far it takes us.”

Manchester United, who have not won the title since 2013, will return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon with a crunch clash against Arsenal at The Emirates.

Mourinho’s men finished sixth in the Premier League last season but also won the Europa League and League Cup in the Portuguese coach’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
