Jose Mourinho warned Man United summer signing needs to improve
Leon Osman believes Manchester United summer signing Romelu Lukaku needs to improve their all-round game
Leon Osman has raised questions about Romelu Lukaku’s all-round game following the Manchester United striker’s recent dip.
The Belgium international moved to the Red Devils in a 75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku scored seven times in seven games in the Premier League to make a brilliant start to his Old Trafford career.
However, his goal-scoring run came to an end at Anfield as Manchester United settled for a goalless draw with Liverpool.
Lukaku failed to find the net against Huddersfield Town and Tottenham Hotspur to raise some concerns about the signing, and he also drew a blank against Chelsea on Sunday.
The 24-year-old missed a great chance to end his mini drought in a 2-0 victory over Benfica in the Champions League in mid-week.
Former Everton midfielder Osman admitted that there are still lingering questions about the Manchester United striker.
“Lukaku is a fantastic player but this is what was happening at Everton for a couple of seasons,” Osman told Sky Sports News.
“The amount of goals he scored for Everton was incredible. But if he didn’t score goals, his all round game was lacking. It was put down that he wanted a bigger club.
“The talk of Lukaku needing to improve his game has been there for a long time.”
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish behind Harry Kane in the goal-scoring charts.
Manchester United re-signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer but the former Sweden international is still recovering from a knee problem.
