Jose Mourinho orders Man United to block 28-year-old from leaving – report
Jose Mourinho is keen to prevent Ander Herrera from leaving Manchester United by triggering an extension in his contract
Jose Mourinho has ordered Manchester United to prevent Ander Herrera from leaving the club by triggering a 12-month extension of his current contract, according to reports in the British media.
Metro is reporting that Mourinho is keen to keep hold of the Spanish midfielder, whose current deal is due to expire at the end of the season.
The situation would leave Herrera as free to speak to foreign clubs in the January transfer window as the clock ticks down on his current contract.
The same report claims that Herrera has been attracting interest from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in recent weeks.
Mourinho is thought to be keen on keeping the Spanish midfielder at Old Trafford and has ordered the Red Devils to extend his current deal.
Herrera has been something of a regular fixture in the Manchester United team so far this season, with the Spaniard having made nine appearances in the Premier League this term.
The midfielder was, however, unable to prevent Mourinho’s men from slipping to a 1-0 loss to Chelsea before the international break.
Manchester United return to Premier League action next weekend when they take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the top flight.
