Jose Mourinho told Man United star is clearly the best in England
Tim Sherwood says Manchester United star David De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League - ahead of Hugo Lloris
Tim Sherwood believes that David De Gea has clearly established himself as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League at Manchester United – ahead of Hugo Lloris.
The Spanish shot-stopper has earned a reputation as one of the finest goalkeepers around since his move to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid back in 2011, when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
De Gea initially made a shaky start to life at Old Trafford as he came in for criticism, but the goalkeeper has since established himself as one of the world’s top players in his position.
Indeed, De Gea’s impressive form has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid having come close to signing him back in September 2015, before the proposed deal fell through at the last minute.
Lloris has also earned praise for his performances for Tottenham in recent seasons, with the French goalkeeper also regarded as one of the top shot-stoppers.
However, Sherwood believes that De Gea is currently ahead of Lloris as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports, Sherwood said: “Hugo Lloris is just behind David De Gea in terms of the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.”
Manchester United return to Champions League action next week when they take on Basel in Switzerland on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils need one more point to book their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
