Jose Mourinho sends clear message to Man United fans about 29-year-old
Jose Mourinho heaps praise on Marouane Fellaini after Manchester United's 1-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday
Jose Mourinho singled out Marouane Fellaini for special praise for his contribution for Manchester United despite the 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The midfielder came on as a second half substitute at Stamford Bridge and made a significant impact on the game, although he was unable to help the Red Devils to conjure an equaliser after Alvaro Morata had given the Blues the lead.
Fellaini only returned to full training with Manchester United on Saturday and was not fully fit heading into the trip to west London this weekend.
However, he still had a significant impact on the game at Stamford Bridge as Manchester United searched for an equaliser.
And Mourinho was delighted by the Belgium international’s commitment levels despite knowing that the midfielder wasn’t fully fit.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said: “I have to say that Fellaini was fantastic for me, his fellow players, for the fans, for the team, for the club.
“He was injured for weeks, he trained yesterday [Saturday] for the first time with the team and he put himself on the line, ready to come in and help in case the team needed him.
“So I am really pleased with him and I didn’t want to go without saying that about Marouane.”
The defeat left Manchester United in second place in the Premier League table and eight points behind leaders Manchester City after 11 games of the new campaign.
The Red Devils, who finished in sixth place n the table last term, return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday 18 November.
