Frank Lampard talks up ‘hugely important’ Man United star
Frank Lampard explains why he is such a keen admirer of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba
Frank Lampard has talked up the importance of Paul Pogba to the Manchester United team under Jose Mourinho.
The French midfielder has just returned from a two-month spell on the sidelines with a serious hamstring injury but he will be hoping to play a key role for Manchester United heading into the hectic festive period.
Pogba marked his return to the first team with a man of the match performance in Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United last weekend.
The midfielder could not prevent Manchester United from slipping to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night as he played 66 minutes against the Swiss side.
And former Chelsea star Lampard has talked up the importance of Pogba to the Manchester United team.
Speaking to BT Sport on Wednesday night, Lampard said: “He’s hugely important. I think we saw that at the weekend when he came back.
“I’m still waiting for the best of Pogba. I really like him and think his attributes are fantastic.
“Releasing him into a more forward role since Nemanja Matic has come in… I think there is more to come because he’s got so much talent.”
Pogba will be hoping to start for Manchester United again when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Jose Mourinho’s men are currently second in the Premier League table and eight points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new campaing.
The Red Devils will try and close the gap to Pep Guardiola’s men when they host the Citizens at Old Trafford on 10 December.
