Juan Mata has insisted that he is happy at Manchester United and is not thinking about a transfer away from the Old Trafford club.

The playmaker has been a regular fixture in the first team for the Red Devils this season and has netted one goal and made one assist so far this term for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Mata has started eight of Manchester United’s 12 Premier League games so far this term to help Jose Mourinho’s men up to second place in the table and to within eight points of leaders Manchester City.

The Spanish playmaker’s current contract at Manchester United is due to expire in the summer of 2018, although the club do have the option to extend it for another season.

And the 29-year-old has now spoken of his desire to stay at Manchester United for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Mata said: “I’m 29 and hopefully I can play football for some more years. It would be great to play until I’m 40 like Ryan Giggs. But that’s still a bit far, still 11 years.

“I’m happy here. The club is massive, the support we have is massive. I’ve been settled down in the city since year one. Now it’s my fourth year in Manchester.

“You never know what can happen in football and in life. But my feeling now is that I’m happy here and I wouldn’t have any problem continuing here for more time.”

Mata and his Manchester United team-mates are currently preparing for their trip to the south coast to take on Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils head into the game on the back of their disappointing 1-0 defeat by Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they missed the chance to qualify for the last 16.
