Juan Mata has warned Manchester United to be prepared for what will be a “decisive” spell in the 2017-18 season.

The Red Devils made a brilliant start to the Premier League campaign following a return of six victories and one stalemate in their opening seven Premier League games.

However, Manchester United have only managed to secure four points in their last four Premier League games to leave Jose Mourinho’s men eight points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The 20-time English champions are looking to win their first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson called time on his decorated Old Trafford career in 2013.

Manchester United welcome Newcastle United in their next fixture at Old Trafford before crunch games against Arsenal and Manchester City in the opening weeks of December.

The Red Devils will be braced for a testing festive schedule following the Manchester derby in a period that could see the Citizens drop crucial points in the title race.

Mata sent a message to his Manchester United team-mates about a crucial couple of months in the Premier League title race.

“Today, we return to training with the mindset on the Newcastle match and the importance of the months that lie ahead, as they come loaded with games, especially during the Christmas period,” Mata wrote on his personal blog on Monday morning.

“These are moments in which good form of the team can be decisive for the second part of the season.”

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table but won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in the 2016-17 season.
