Rio Ferdinand: Man United summer signing is a beast, an animal
Rio Ferdinand opens up about Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United after his move to Old Trafford
Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Romelu Lukaku and is backing the striker to be a big success at Manchester United.
The Belgian forward is currently getting used to life at Old Trafford after signing for the Red Devils from Everton back in July.
The 24-year-old has made a strong start in the Premier League for the Red Devils and scored seven times in his first seven outings in the top flight for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Lukaku is aiming to establish himself as the man to lead the line at Old Trafford in the seasons to come as he bids to write his name into Manchester United folklore.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand reckons that Lukaku will be a big hit at the club, although he would like to see him deployed in a front three along with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
Ferdinand wrote in his column for the Sunday Times: “I rate Lukaku massively. I played against him. He’s a beast.
“He’s an animal. He should be carrying defenders on his back into the goal — he’s that strong, he’s that powerful.
“He just needs the right ammunition and the right movement around him, which is why I think he’d thrive even more with Martial and Rashford playing off him in a three.”
Manchester United are aiming to win the Premier League title this season after the disappointment of their sixth placed finish under Jose Mourinho last term.
The Red Devils have not lifted the top-flight trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge at the club back in 2013 but they did win the League Cup and Europa League last season.
