Juan Mata: Jose Mourinho ‘happy’ with Man United squad
The Manchester United midfielder reveals what Jose Mourinho really thinks about his Red Devils squad

Juan Mata has revealed that Jose Mourinho is “happy” with his Manchester United squad.
The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table but eight points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.
Manchester United were 4-1 winners against Newcastle United at Old Trafford last weekend thanks to goals from Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba.
The 20-time English champions lost 1-0 to title holders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to lose ground on Pep Guardiola’s men.
Mourinho signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window.
Only Manchester City have scored more goals than Manchester United this season, while Mourinho’s men have the best defensive record in the top flight.
So it’s no surprise that Mourinho is happy with his Manchester United squad given their strength at either end of the pitch.
Talking to ESPN FC about Manchester United’s squad depth, Mata said:
“We play so many different tournaments, not just the Premier League, the cups and the Champions League and we need to be ready.
“We need to have a deep squad if you want to compete until the end in every single trophy so I think the manager if happy with the squad.
“As a team, we feel confident and really happy with each other. I think there is a good atmosphere in the dressing room. Hopefully we can do great things together.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season.
The Red Devils won the League Cup and the Europa League in their first campaign under Mourinho.
Manchester United haven’t won the title since 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
