Juan Mata has urged Manchester United to reflect on their 1-0 loss at Chelsea with perspective.

The Red Devils made the long trip to the English capital in search of back-to-back Premier League victories.

Manchester United started October with a goalless draw at Liverpool before a 2-1 loss at Huddersfield Town.

The 20-time English champions rebounded with a 1-0 win against title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

But Manchester United succumbed to their second defeat of the season when Alvaro Morata scored a 55th-minute winner to help Chelsea notch up a 1-0 win against Jose Mourinho’s side.

The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table but eight points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.

Mata, though, is refusing to be downbeat about Manchester United’s setback at defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“The return to Stamford Bridge didn’t work out as we expected,” Mata wrote on his personal blog.

“It was a tough and intense game where Chelsea were able to take their chances to get the three points. In sports you have to accept the defeats, but with the only goal of learning from them and trying to improve in the next game. That’s what we’re going to do.

“There’s still a lot to play for, so let’s carry on.”

Manchester United have won four successive games in the Champions League to leave the Red Devils on the brink of the knockout stage.

The Red Devils will host Newcastle United in their next Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Saturday 18 November.

The 20-time English champions are looking to win the Premier League title for the first time since 2013.
