Jose Mourinho has insisted that he isn’t concerned about Manchester United’s eight-point gap to Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola’s men have been by far the best performing team in the top flight this season, with the Citizens having only dropped two points in their first 12 games.

Manchester City have established themselves as the clear favourites to win the title this season and it looks as if they will take some stopping.

Manchester United will have the chance to close the gap to the Citizens down when they host their bitter local rivals at Old Trafford on 10 December.

And despite Manchester City looking like the clear favourites for the title this season, Mourinho insists that he is not concerned about the eight-point gap.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Mourinho said: “We cannot think about the gap, we cannot think about the gap to City, we cannot think about the gap to the fifth position. You just have to focus on ourselves in matches.

“In this moment we haven’t yet reached 50% of the season so let’s be calm. We have four competitions to play and let’s go step-by-step.”

Manchester United are currently preparing for their trip to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Mourinho’s men head into the game looking to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils were 4-1 winners over Newcastle United in the Premier League last weekend.
