Nemanja Matic has helped to bring out the best in Manchester United record signing Paul Pogba, Danny Higginbothm has claimed.

The Red Devils pulled off a transfer masterstroke when Jose Mourinho signed Matic in a £40m deal from defending Premier League champions Chelsea in August.

Manchester United made a brilliant start to the Premier League season following back-to-back 4-0 victories over West Ham United and Swansea City.

Pogba scored two goals and made two assists in his opening five top-flight games before the France international succumbed to a hamstring problem.

The Serbia international has allowed Manchester United’s most-expensive player to embrace more of an attacking role in Mourinho’s team.

Matic is one of four players to complete all 11 of Manchester United’s Premier League games in the 2017-18 campaign so far.

Former Manchester United defender Higginbotham believes Matic has been a brilliant addition to Mourinho’s side.

“Matic has been sublime for Man United. He brings the best out of the players around him,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports.

“He does his part but he gets the best out of the players around him. Pogba was sensational with Matic in the team. He has been an unbelievable signing.”

Matic and his Manchester United team-mates lost 1-0 to his former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

Summer signing Alvaro Morata scored a 55th-minute header to secure three points for the defending Premier League champions.

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 and have only managed to finish in the top four twice.
