Jose Mourinho has revealed that Paul Pogba is closing in on a return to action for Manchester United after his lay-off with a hamstring injury.

The French midfielder has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury during the 3-0 Champions League win over Basel at Old Trafford back on 12 September.

Pogba has been working hard on his fitness levels as he tries to get himself back available for selection as soon as possible.

Manchester United will be hoping to have the 24-year-old midfielder back available for selection again ahead of the hectic festive schedule in the Premier League.

And Mourinho has now revealed that Pogba and a host of Manchester United’s other injured stars are now closing in on their returns to action for the first team at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Mourinho said: “We have the group of players which are the ones that we hope will recover as soon as possible.

“They have to work every day but they are in a good position now. Pogba, Ibrahimovic, Rojo, Fellaini. They are in good positions so I think we can go into this part of the season, the Christmas period, and after, in a strong position.”

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday as they suffered a blow to their Premier League title ambitions.

The Red Devils will aim to get back to winning ways when they host Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday 18 November, although it is not yet clear if Pogba will be back available for that game.
