Romelu Lukaku will score 25 to 30 goals in his first season at Manchester United, Kevin Kilbane has predicted.

The Red Devils signed the Belgium international in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window after beating title holders Chelsea to the prolific goal-scorer.

Lukaku scored 25 goals in 36 games in his final season at Goodison Park to produce his best return for one campaign.

The Manchester United summer signing scored seven goals in their opening seven games in the Premier League to seemingly make the transition to the Red Devils team.

However, Lukaku failed to quash criticism of his performances against the league’s biggest teams after he fired a blank against Liverpool, Huddersfield Town, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

The Belgian forward has failed to find the net in back-to-back games against Benfica in the Champions League, too, after he scored against Basel and CSKA Moscow.

Former Everton midfielder Kilbane believes Lukaku could hit the 30-goal mark despite the Manchester United striker struggling for confidence.

“Lukaku is just struggling for confidence,” Kilbane told Newstalk.

“He has struggled in all those bigger games. Man United sit in deep.

“It’s what he has done off the ball. His movement. He has stretched defences. He has brought Mkihitaryan and Mata into the game.

“It seems to me like he is playing within himself. There is so much talk about him, maybe it’s got to his head. He will score 25 or 30 goals this season easily but there is this question – can he produce in the bigger matches?”

Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
