Jose Mourinho told Man United signing needs to answer some big questions
Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has some serious questions to answer about his temperament, Kevin Kilbane has claimed
Romelu Lukaku still has to answer questions about his ability to thrive in Manchester United’s biggest game, Kevin Kilbane has warned.
The Belgium international scored seven times in seven games in the Premier League to make a brilliant start to his Old Trafford career.
Manchester United signed Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton after the 24-year-old scored 25 times in 36 games last term.
Lukaku’s goals have dried up in recent weeks and the summer signing is without a goal in five outings after last weekend’s 1-0 loss to defending Premier League champions Chelsea.
The Belgian forward failed to find the net against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in three of their last four Premier League appearances.
Former Everton defender Kilbane believes Lukaku is now facing serious questions about his big-game temperament following a series of disappointing performances.
Kilbane told Newstalk: “Lukaku had 24 touches but only one touch in the area. That’s another big game that has bypassed Lukaku.
“The question about him performing in bigger games will always be hanging over his head.”
Manchester United managed to see off competition from Chelsea for the signing of Lukaku in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term but won the League Cup and the Europa League.
Manchester United signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer.
