Rio Ferdinand: Man United have missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s personality
The Manchester United legend believes Zlatan Ibrahimovc's will be a huge addition to the Old Trafford dressing room
Rio Ferdinand insists Manchester United have missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s big personality in the Old Trafford dressing room.
The Red Devils re-signed Ibrahimovic back in August after the veteran striker scored 28 times in all competitions during his first season at Old Trafford.
Ibrahimovic’s goals helped Manchester United to win the League Cup and the Europa League, although the striker couldn’t prevent the Red Devils from finishing in sixth place.
The 36-year-old suffered a season-ending knee problem in the Europa League quarter-finals to cast doubt on his long-term future at Manchester United.
Ibrahimovic made his first appearance since April as a second-half substitute in Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
The experienced centre-forward has won trophies with AC Milan, Ajax, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain during a decorated career.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes Ibrahimovic’s big personality is a huge asset to the Red Devils team.
“There’s an aura about this guy. What he’s done on the pitch, the amount of trophies he’s won,” Ferdinand told BT Sport. “It’s invaluable to this dressing room.
“There are a lot of players in there that haven’t won much. What he guarantees you, as we saw last year, is goals. This season, the personality [will be important].
“They’ve been lacking that recently. It’s a huge lift.”
The Red Devils made a return to winning ways on Saturday evening thanks to Manchester United’s 4-1 win against the Magpies at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
Ibrahimovic will be hoping to help Manchester United overturn an eight-point deficit and catch their title rivals Manchester City at the top of the table.
