Neville admits he’s expecting to see 22-year-old leave Man United
Phil Neville opens up about Luke Shaw's situation at Manchester United
Phil Neville has admitted that he is expecting to see Luke Shaw leave Manchester United after failing to fulfil his potential at Old Trafford.
The England left-back has struggled for game-time under Jose Mourinho this season and hasn’t been able to hold down a regular spot in the first team since recovering from his broken leg.
Shaw will be hoping to impress Mourinho between now and the end of the season as he bids to try and hold down a regular spot in the first team at Old Trafford.
However, the defender seems to have fallen out of favour under Mourinho, and former Red Devils star Neville admits that the future is looking bleak for Shaw at Old Trafford.
Neville told Sky Sports: “Look, he should be England’s left-back, 100 per cent. I scouted him for United when I was coach there.
“At Southampton I thought, ‘He’s an England left-back’, he was one of the best young left-backs I’ve seen in a long time. Going forward he had absolutely everything.
“I just find it frustrating now that he’s not grasping the opportunity in front of him and fulfilling that potential.
“He needs to play football and I’m not sure that’s going to be at United.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Tuesday night when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road.
The Red Devils are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after having finished sixth in the table last term.
Mourinho did, however, lead the Red Devils to the Europa League and League Cup titles in his first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League if they beat CSKA Moscow in their final group game next month.
