Jose Mourinho opens up about Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of Brighton v Man United
Jose Mourinho was in no mood to discuss Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of Manchester United's clash with Brighton
Jose Mourinho responded angrily when asked about Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s situation at Manchester United this week.
The Armenia international was left out of the Manchester United squad entirely for 4-1 win over Newcastle last weekend as Mourinho rotated his squad.
The playmaker has been struggling to find consistent form in recent weeks after initially making a strong start to the new campaign.
The 28-year-old has made five assists and scored one goal in 11 Premier League games so far this season, but he has since gone six games without scoring or registering an assist.
Mourinho was quizzed about Mkhitaryan’s situation ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
However, the Portuguese coach was clearly in no mood to discuss the Armenia international’s situation.
Asked about Mkhitaryan, Mourinho told his pre-match news conference in Switzerland: “It’s a big frustration for me that there’s always a question about some player that is not playing or is not in the best form.
“The answer is simple: until they change the rules, I can only play with 11 men.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Brighton in the top flight.
Mourinho’s men have been in good form in recent weeks and are still in second place in the Premier League table, eight points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new campaign.
The Red Devils take on Manchester City at Old Trafford on 10 December.
