Jose Mourinho admits he’s worried about 29-year-old at Man United
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho stays tight-lipped about Marouane Fellaini contract negotiations
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had admitted that he cannot predict the future of Marouane Fellaini.
The Portuguese boss was asked about any contract talks regarding the Belgian, and he told reporters at his news conference at Carrington on Friday: “It is a discussion between the player and the board.
“I am not involved in contracts, in deals. And I respect both. I respect the player because the player has the right to decide his future.
“He finishes his contract, he has the right to decide his future, and I respect the board because the decisions and the discussions are under their control.
“So I just wait, wishing that they will have an understanding but it’s out of my control.”
The tall Belgian joined the Red Devils in 2013 under the ill-fated reign of David Moyes. His time at Old Trafford has been mixed, but his effectiveness has often seem him make game-winning appearances from the bench.
However, under Mourinho, Fellaini has seen more game time, in midfield and in attack. Mourinho will want to keep Fellaini, but will the player want to stay without guarantees on playing time?
As his contract ticks down and January approaches, allowing him to talk to other clubs, Fellaini looks to be playing hardball with his club.
Fans haven’t been won over by his style of football, but the midfielder will not be without offers should he decide to leave.
It is unclear where his immediate future lies, but the Belgian remains part of Mourinho’s plans for this season.
