Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans about Ander Herrera after Chelsea loss
Man United boss Jose Mourinho reveals that Ander Herrera is set to enjoy a well-earned week off during the international break
Jose Mourinho has revealed that Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is set to enjoy a well-earned week off during the international break.
The Spanish midfielder has been a regular fixture in the first team at Old Trafford this season and he played the full 90 minutes of Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Herrera has not been called up to his national team for the final international break of the year and Mourinho has revealed that he plans to give the 28-year-old, along with the likes of Chris Smalling, some time off to recharge ahead of the hectic festive schedule in the Premier League.
Speaking to MUTV after Manchester United’s defeat at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho said: “The international break means the majority of the players fly now from London to their countries.
“They all disappear and then we have a couple who aren’t selected for their national team, like [Chris] Smalling and [Ander] Herrera and they really deserve, after so many matches, to have a week off which I’m going to give them.”
Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea left the Red Devils in second place in the Premier League table and eight points behind Manchester City in the race for the title.
Mourinho’s men get back to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday 18 November.
Manchester United finished sixth but won both the Premier League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford last season.
