Jamie Redknapp: 24-year-old can be Man United’s next Eric Cantona
Jamie Redknapp wants to see Paul Pogba write his name into Man United folklore in the coming years
Jamie Redknapp has challenged Paul Pogba to continue his development at Manchester United become the next Eric Cantona at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old made his return to action for the Red Devils on Saturday when he was named as the man of the match in the 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
Pogba had been missing for two months due to a hamstring injury but produced a fine performance as he scored one and set up another in the Red Devils’ win over the Magpies.
The midfielder will now be hoping to stay fully fit as he bids to help Manchester United try and catch Manchester City in the race for the title during the hectic festive period.
Former Liverpool star Redknapp is a keen admirer of Pogba and says that he has the potential to go down in history as one of the Red Devils’ best ever players.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Now, the challenge for Pogba is to grab the big games by the scruff of the neck.
“He is a natural leader and has the leadership skills to captain this team. He should be looking at United legends such as Bryan Robson, Roy Keane and Eric Cantona and setting his sights on emulating them.”
Manchester United take on Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night, before they switch their focus back to Premier League affairs and their trip to Brighton on Saturday.
The Red Devils are currently second and eight points behind leaders Manchester City in the title race.
