Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United supporters about Romelu Lukaku
Jose Mourinho insists that he is delighted by Romelu Lukaku's contribution at Manchester United
Jose Mourinho has insisted that he could not be happier with Romelu Lukaku’s contribution at Manchester United, despite the striker having drawn another blank in the 4-2 win over Watford on Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old has scored eight goals and made four assists in the Premier League so far this season since making his move to Old Trafford from Everton in the summer transfer window.
However, the striker has been struggling to find the net in recent weeks and has only scored one goal in his last 10 outings in all competitions.
He did set up one of Manchester United’s four goals at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night as the Red Devils kept the pace with Manchester City.
But Mourinho insists that he is delighted with Lukaku’s contribution to the team, even if he has been struggling for goals in recent weeks.
Speaking at his post-match news conference after the win at Watford, Mourinho said: “I think he needs a big contract with boots. At the moment, he has no contract with any brand, that is why he is wearing black boots!
“Jokes apart, he works amazingly well for the team. I would never blame him for missing an easy chance, never.
“He’s an amazing professional. I couldn’t be happier with him.”
Manchester United will now turn their attentions towards their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils were beaten 2-0 by the Gunners at The Emirates last season in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
