Manchester United are ready to rival Chelsea for Gremio’s promising midfielder Arthur Melo, according to reports.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Manchester United are interested in signing the exciting 21-year-old attacking midfielder.

The same article that the Red Devils have been following his performances but Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are also interested.

Melo does have a small link with Chelsea after ex-Blues manager Luiz Felipe Scolari gave the playmaker his Gremio debut in 2016.

The 5ft 8ins midfielder has scored two goals in 37 games in all competitions during his two seasons at Brazilian club Gremio.

Melo earned his first call-up to the Brazil squad earlier this month but the attacker hasn’t made his debut for the national team.

He has earned favourable comparisons to Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta.

Manchester United signed three players in the summer transfer window following the addition of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.

Defending Premier League champions Chelsea were 1-0 winners against the Red Devils thanks to Alvaro Morata’s 55th-minute winner at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and a point ahead of Antonio Conte’s men with 11 games to go.
