Jose Mourinho told to sell Man United outcast to sign his favourite Tottenham star
Tim Sherwood believes Manchester United should settle for a swap deal involving Luke Shaw and Tottenham's Danny Rose
Tim Sherwood has urged Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to agree to a swap deal involving Luke Shaw and Danny Rose.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino oversaw Shaw’s impressive development at Southampton before Manchester United temporarily made the left-back the most-expensive teenager in world football following his £29m move to Old Trafford.
After a tough first season, Shaw appeared to have convinced Louis van Gaal of his commitment and quality but a horror leg break brought his 2015-16 season to a premature end.
Van Gaal’s successor Jose Mourinho has used Shaw sparingly and has regularly criticised the 21-year-old’s attitude and fitness issues in the media to prompt relentless talk of Manchester United offloading the England star.
Indeed, speculation has linked the Red Devils with a big-money deal to sign Rose from Tottenham as Mourinho looks to address what has become a problem position for Manchester United.
Rose made his return from a long-term injury problem last month but caused controversy in the summer when he appeared to hit out at Tottenham’s wage structure.
Former Spurs boss Sherwood urged Manchester United and Tottenham to do a swap-deal involving Rose and Shaw.
“The left-back position is where Jose is unsure,” Sherwood told Sky Sports.
“They might as well do the swap now. Luke Shaw is loved by Pochettino. Danny Rose is loved by Mourinho. They might as well get it over with. Do the swap now.”
Manchester United are in second place but level on points with third placed Tottenham Hotspur.
