Manchester United are lining up a club record bid to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet Don Balon, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, is reporting that the Red Devils are ready to make a £177m move to bring the 21-year-old to Old Trafford in the new year.

The same report claims that Manchester United have already made contact with Real Madrid about the possibility of bringing Asensio to Old Trafford next year.

Should the move go through at that price, it would smash Manchester United’s club transfer record, which currently stands at the £89m the Red Devils paid to Juventus to re-sign Paul Pobga back in 2016.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has scored four goals and made two assists in 11 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid so far this season.

Manchester United are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.

The Red Devils are currently second in the Premier League table as they look to try and close the gap to leaders Manchester City.

Manchester United host Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, with the Red Devils currently eight points off top spot.
