Ian Wright admits Arsenal star would ‘light up’ Man United
The Arsenal legend believes Mesut Ozil would be a great addition to the Manchester United team
Ian Wright has admitted that Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil would “light up” the Manchester United team.
The Gunners midfielder’s future has been a source of relentless debate over the past 12 months or so.
Ozil hasn’t signed a new deal with the Gunners despite entering the final year of his current contract.
The 29-year-old’s performance’s have attracted criticism amid talk of Manchester United interest in the World Cup winner.
Ozil struggled badly during heavy defeats at Liverpool and Manchester City on the road in the Premier League this term.
However, the German playmaker produced his best performance of the season to inspire Arsenal to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates.
Ozil created Shkodran Mustafi’s opener in the north London derby last weekend as he finished as man of the match.
Manchester United’s midfielder lacked creativity in Paul Pogba’s absence before the France international’s return to competitive action last weekend.
Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Ozil would be a good fit at Manchester United should the controversial transfer happen.
“I think they’ll both [Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez] probably leave,” Wright told The Debate on Sky Sports.
“If Ozil goes somewhere like Man United, with the players that they’ve got and when he’s on form, he will light that place up. That is the calibre of player he is.
“If he’s got the players around him, he will be brilliant because he’s a brilliant player. I don’t think that Arsene Wenger has got the best out of him consistently.”
Arsenal signed Ozil in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2013 January transfer window.
The Gunners finished in fifth place to miss out on a Champions League spot last term.
