Real Madrid line up surprise January bid for 29-year-old Man United star – report
Real Madrid line up a surprise bid to try and sign Juan Mata from Manchester United in January, say reports
Real Madrid are lining up a surprise bid to try and sign Juan Mata from Manchester United in the January transfer window, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Express is reporting that the Spanish giants are plotting a move to try and land the playmaker, whose current contract at Old Trafford is due to expire next summer.
Mata was left out of the Manchester United squad for the trip to Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday to raise questions about his long-term future at the Old Trafford outfit.
The same report claims that Real Madrid are keen on luring the playmaker back to Spain to inject some “fresh impetus” into their team after a stuttering start to the new campaign.
Mata has been substituted in each of his 11 starts for Manchester United so far this season and it remains to be seen whether he will hold down a regular spot in the first team at Old Trafford in the coming weeks and months.
The same report claims that Manchester United could be willing to listen to offers for Mata in January to avoid risking losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Manchester United signed Mata from Chelsea back in January 2014, when Mourinho deemed him to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
