Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he is a huge admirer of Willian at Chelsea.

The Brazilian attacker was in fine form on Wednesday night as he scored twice to help fire the Blues to a 4-0 victory over 10-man Qarabag to help the west London side book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Willian has found his first-team opportunities to be somewhat limited under Antonio Conte this season but the 29-year-old has delivered whenever called upon.

Indeed, Willian has scored two goals and made two assists in all competitions so far this season, despite having only started half of Chelsea’s six Premier League games.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has revealed that he is a huge admirer of the attacker as he singled him out for special praise after Chelsea’s victory over Qarabag.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “I really love watching him play. I think he’s fantastic.

“He hasn’t had many minutes this year, he’s been coming on as a bit-part player. But he’s sharp in his movement. He’s got a thunderous shot, especially with his right foot.

“When he’s in the middle of the goal, he can go either way. When you’re that quick and that sharp, you eliminate defenders.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a crunch clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Blues, who won the title in style under Conte last term, head into the game in third place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new campaign.
