Rio Ferdinand reacts to Sadio Mane’s display in Liverpool FC’s draw at Sevilla
The Manchester United defender singles out Sadio Mane for special praise after the Liverpool FC star's difficult headed goal at Sevilla
Rio Ferdinand praised Sadio Mane for a brilliant header in Liverpool FC’s 3-3 draw at Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Senegal international started his third Champions League game of the 2017-18 season as the forward looked to score his first goal since August.
Mane made a brilliant start to the current campaign following a return of three goals in three games in the Premier League before a red card at Manchester City.
The African forward added a second goal for the visitors in Sevilla after Brazil international Roberto Firmino scored in the second minute to put Liverpool FC ahead.
Mane managed to contort his body to guide header into the net from a tight angle to score his first goal since August.
Alberto Moreno made two defensive mistakes to allow Sevilla to cut Liverpool FC’s advantage to one goal with 25 minutes to play.
In what felt like an inevitable end to the Champions League clash, Sevilla’s Guido Pizarro levelled deep in added time to rescue a point for the hosts.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand highlighted Mane’s goal for special praise after Liverpool were forced to wait until their final group-stage game to secure a place in the round of 16.
Ferdinand told BT Sport:
“Mane – what a header that is. It’s very difficult. He makes it look easy.”
Mane moved to Liverpool in a £30m deal from Southampton in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Senegal international scored 13 goals and made five assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League last term.
Mane has netted eight times and has made four goals for his Liverpool FC team-mates in 10 games in all competitions in the 2017-18 season.
Liverpool FC are in fifth place in the Premier League table.
