Steven Gerrard: What’s different about Liverpool FC signing
The former Liverpool FC captain opens up about Mohamed Salah's transformation at Anfield
Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool FC signing Mohamed Salah has worked on his physicality since leaving Chelsea in 2014.
The Egypt international moved to the Merseyside outfit in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
Salah has scored 10 goals in 13 games in the Premier League to make a sensational start to his Liverpool FC career.
The 25-year-old got on the score sheet in the Reds’ 1-1 draw with defending champions Chelsea at Anfield last weekend.
The African forward spent six months at the west London side in 2014 following an £11m switch to Stamford Bridge from Swiss side Basel.
However, Salah struggled to make an impression at Chelsea to prompt the Blues to send the winger out on loan to Fiorentina and then AS Roma.
Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard highlighted the difference between Salah at Anfield and at Stamford Bridge.
“He’s got a different body shape [than he used to]. He’s got shoulders [now] and is more physical,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“When he was at Chelsea he was a baby in football terms. Now he’s coming into the prime of his career. He’s got that confidence from doing well at Roma. He’s in a good place. He’s started really well and it’s continued.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a long-awaited return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad ahead of a return to Europe’s premier club competition, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Salah.
