Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur will be “too strong” for West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs suffered a surprise 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

Goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez sealed three points for Arsene Wenger’s side despite Tottenham’s impressive run of form.

Tottenham dropped down to fourth place in the Premier League table and 11 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Spurs bounced back with a 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League to secure top spot in the group with a game to spare.

West Brom lost 4-0 to defending Premier League champions Chelsea at The Hawthorns to prompt the Baggies board to sack Tony Pulis.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing Tottenham to ease to comfortable win against West Brom at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

Merson told Sky Sports: “It was a big result for Spurs in Dortmund. If they had lost, people may have been looking at it thinking: ‘Have they hit a brick wall?’ So fair play to them.

“They always seem to do this, lose a big game and then sneak a win somewhere. They didn’t turn up against Arsenal, and admittedly Dortmund aren’t the team they were, but they’ll be feeling great after coming back from a goal down.

“They’ll be miles too strong for West Brom.”

Tottenham finished in second place in the Premier League table last term to finish seven points behind title holders Chelsea.

Spurs have finished in third place and second place in their last two Premier League campaigns.

The north London side have beaten Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League at Wembley this season.
