Danny Murphy praised Manchester United midfieler Jesse Lingard for his “fantastic” goal in a 4-2 win over Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils were looking to record a third successive win following victories over Newcastle United and Brighton in their last two outings.
Manchester United broke the deadlock in the first half thanks to Ashley Young’s second goal in successive Premier League games.
The England veteran extended the visitors’ lead with his second of the night to put the Red Devils in control of the top-flight clash.
Manchester United made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute thanks to Anthony Martial’s goal as the Frenchman capitalised on a rare start.
However, Troy Deeney halved the deficit from the spot with 13 minutes to go before Abdoulaye Doucore poked a finish past David De Gea in the 85th minute.
But England midfielder Lingard picked up the ball in the middle of the park and ran the length of the pitch to secure a 4-2 win.
The Red Devils struggled in October following a return of four points from four games but Manchester United have found their form in recent weeks.
And former Liverpool midfielder Murphy heaped praise on Lingard for his wonder goal.
“I talked earlier about Jesse Lingard’s ability to keep making these kind of runs, his unselfishness and his athleticism to keep making these runs in behind. He’s ran from 40 yards here, shown great awareness of space, great close control, and it’s a fantastic finish,” Murphy told BBC Sport.
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season but won the League Cup and the Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
