Paul Merson states honest prediction for Watford v Man United
The Arsenal legend is tipping Manchester United to secure a 1-1 draw with Watford on Tuesday night
Paul Merson has admitted that he doesn’t envisage Manchester United beating Watford in their Premier League clash at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils limped over the line in a 1-0 win against promoted side Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday thanks to Ashley Young’s deflected winner in the second half.
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Swiss outfit Basel in their penultimate Champions League fixture last week following Michael Lang’s last-ditch winner for the home side in Switzerland.
The 20-time English champions appeared to have turned a corner when Paul Pogba returned to the Manchester United side and inspired the Red Devils to a 4-1 win against Newcastle United.
Jose Mourinho’s side are eight points behind current leaders Manchester City after 13 games to leave the Red Devils with a lot of ground to make up in the title race.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping Manchester United to be held to a 1-1 draw with Watford in the English capital on Tuesday night.
“I watched Man United against Brighton, they were very fortunate and I do not see them winning this, I really do not,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Watford, to me, are in a different league to Brighton, so I am going for a 1-1 draw here and a draw would be a shocking result for United as they need to win all their games. But I just do not see it, so I am going to go 1-1, and this will be a difficult game (for United).”
Manchester United will take on Premier League leaders Manchester City in the derby on 12 December.
The Red Devils signed Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
