Paul Merson predicts the winner of West Brom v Chelsea
Paul Merson is backing Chelsea to win a tight game against West Brom at The Hawthorns on Saturday
Paul Merson is tipping Chelsea to claim a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues head into the game looking to build on their impressive 1-0 victory over Manchester United before the international break as Antonio Conte’s men got their title bid back on track.
The west London side are still trailing Premier League leaders Manchester City by nine points after 11 games.
Chelsea will be keen to get their season back on track as they bid to use the hectic festive period to climb the Premier League table.
And former Arsenal star Merson is tipping the Blues to win, although he has warned Chelsea that they will face a difficult game.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Friday morning, Merson said: “I’ve gone with Chelsea to win 2-1, but it will be a difficult game.
“The big advantage that Chelsea have here is that West Brom really have to come out and do something. It plays into Chelsea’s hands.”
Chelsea are aiming to win the Premier League title for the second season running after they lifted the trophy in Conte’s first campaign in charge at the club last season.
The Blues, however, did not have the distraction of European football last season as they were able to focus purely on domestic affairs.
Chelsea, who are currently fourth, return to Champions League action with a trip to Qarabag next week.
