Chris Smalling pulled up with a groin injury late in the game but the England international was still tasked with marking Harry Maguire late on before the Leicester City star snatched a late equaliser for the home side.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville claimed during commentary that Herrera seemingly refused to play in defence and instead instructed Henrikh Mkhitaryan to do so.
However, the Spanish midfielder had a clear message for his critics as he wished his followers on social media a Merry Christmas.
Herrera wrote on Twitter: “Happy Christmas to everyone, including the ones that try to invent stories that never happened 👍🏼😘👍🏼😘👍🏼 #sofunny #trytobehappyanddontlie.”
Herrera will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Boxing Day with a home clash against Burnley.
The Red Devils’ draw with Leicester on Saturday left Jose Mourinho’s men in second place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City at the half-way stage of the season.
Manchester United, though, have still shown significant improvements from last season, when they ended up sixth in the table.
