The Arsenal star is bitterly disappointed with their 3-1 loss to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium last weekend
Mesut Ozil sent a heartfelt apology to Arsenal supporters following Saturday evening’s frustrating 3-1 loss to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia broke the deadlock in the fourth minute to put Arsenal on the back foot despite having home advantage.
England midfielder Jesse Lingard capitalised on an Arsenal defence in disarray with Manchester United’s second goal in the 11th minute in north London.
Arsenal dominated possession but Ozil and his talented colleagues couldn’t find a way past Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea in the Red Devils goal.
Alexandre Lacazette momentarily halved the deficit with close-range finish but Lingard scored his second of the night to effectively seal three points for the visitors.
Paul Pogba’s sending off in the 74th minute offered Arsenal some hope but Manchester United held on for three crucial points in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal midfielder Ozil posted a lengthy message to the club’s supporters on Instagram to apologise for their poor result.
The German star wrote on the photo-sharing app:
“The day after I’m still very unhappy about the result. We played good football and dominated the match, but wasted too many chances.
“The 3rd goal killed us, but we have to keep going. Still many games to play this year. Thanks for your support Gunners 👊🏼🔴 #COYG #AFCvMUFC @arsenal”
Ozil moved to Arsenal in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2013 summer transfer window.
The Gunners haven’t won the top-flight crown since 2013.
