The Brazilian midfielder showed great commitment to out sprint Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka and Jack Wilshere before the Liverpool FC number 10 got on the end of Mohamed Salah’s cross to glance his header past Petr Cech.
Coutinho, who is best known for scoring spectacular goals with his feet, showed great awareness to steer his header into the Arsenal net and take his tally to 11 in all competitions this term.
Former Manchester United defender Neville was impressed with Coutinho’s desire after the South American exposed both Xhaka and Wilshere’s lack of pace in the Arsenal team on Friday night.
“Liverpool have dominated this game,” Neville said at half-time on Sky Sports.
“Salah gets free. It became a race between Coutinho and Wilshere and Xhaka. Coutinho wins it. It’s more than Liverpool deserved.”
Salah extended Liverpool’s lead before Alexis Sanchez, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil all scored in quick succession to give Arsenal a 3-2 lead.
Firmino, though, spared his side’s blushes with an equaliser.
The Brazil international has been linked with a move to La Liga leaders Barcelona with the January transfer window just around the corner.
Coutinho has been in brilliant form so far this term following a return of 11 goals and seven assists in 14 starts in all competitions this season.
The Reds signed Coutinho in an £8.5m deal from Inter Milan in the 2013 January transfer window.
