Ray Wilkins has accused Arsenal of throwing away as much as £140m by not resolving the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The futures of both players have been constant sources of speculation in recent weeks after both entered into the final 12 months of their contracts at The Emirates.

Sanchez was heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer window, with Manchester City said to be interested, but a switch failed to materialise.

Ozil’s future has also been a constant source of speculation, with Arsenal facing the very real possibility of losing both players on free transfers in the summer.

And former Chelsea coach Wilkins admits that he cannot believe the Gunners have allowed the pair’s contracts to run down so much and that they are now facing losing them for free next summer.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Wilkins said: “I am flabbergasted Arsenal allowed Wenger at the start of the season to throwaway £140m. They will go.

“Someone will say to Ozil and Sanchez, we will give you £30m to join us and we will pay you afterwards. Arsenal will get nothing. They’re not going to stay there. They’re gone.”

Both Ozil and Sanchez will be expecting to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action on Friday night with a crunch clash against Manchester City at The Emirates.

The north London side head into the game knowing that a win would move them above the Reds and into fourth place over Christmas.
