Wenger replies when asked about Arsenal duo ahead of January transfer window
The Arsenal manager refuses to shed light on the future of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez
Arsene Wenger has refused to shed light on whether Arsenal will keep Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez beyond the January transfer window.
The Gunners duo have entered the final 12 months of their respective contracts having failed to agree new deals with the north London outfit.
Sanchez was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise as Arsenal couldn’t secure a deal to sign AS Monaco striker Thomas Lemar.
The Chile international is still attracting interest from the Citizens even though Arsene Wenger started Sanchez in Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Gunners are also fending off interest from Manchester United in Germany international Ozil as the media report that Jose Mourinho wants a reunion with his former Real Madrid player.
Ozil has been in fine form in recent weeks with an impressive return of two goals and five assists in his last five Premier League appearances to fuel transfer speculation.
The World Cup winner will come up against his potential suitors Manchester United at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
Speaking to the media about the future of the key Arsenal duo, Wenger said:
“Well, let’s first go towards Saturday, then in January we’ll see what happens,” Wenger told the media. “But I just spoke about that in the last press conference and nothing has changed.”
Arsenal lost 3-1 to title rivals Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.
Ozil has won three FA Cup crowns in the past four seasons since his 42.5m move to Arsenal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2013.
The Chile star followed Ozil from La Liga 12 months later in a 35m deal to Arsenal from Barcelona.
