Players of the ilk of Eden Hazard are among the best in the world and Wilkins believes the big stage of the Champions League is the only thing that can keep the top players at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have a great record of reaching the Champions League, missing out just once in the last decade.
The west London side won the competition in 2012 and it is the promise of top European football that keeps Hazard at the club, according to Wilkins.
The former Chelsea No2 told SportingBet:
“If Chelsea don’t make the Champions League, players like Hazard will disappear though.”
Hazard was pivotal in Chelsea’s title win last season, scoring 16 goals, some of which were decisive winners, to help clinch the Premier League crown.
The Belgian has continued his impressive form this season, already bagging five goals so far following Saturday’s 3-1 win over Newcastle United.
Chelsea are chasing runaway leaders Manchester City as they seek to successfully defend their title, but they are also unsure of the top four.
Conte has had a far more stressful start to his second season than he did in his first year.
The Italian coach will be keen to keep his best players at the club, which means he must secure at least a top-four spot this season.
