Joe Cole believes that Cesar Azpilicueta is not as highly rated as he should be following his sparkling form for Chelsea in recent seasons.

The Spanish full-back has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most consistent players in recent seasons and he has been flourishing under Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.

Azpilicueta played every single minute of Chelsea’s title winning campaign last season as he helped the Blues to win the Premier League for the second time in three years.

The full-back is one of the first names on the team sheet at Stamford Bridge and he has started 15 of Chelsea’s 16 Premier League games so far this season.

And former Chelsea star Cole has admitted that he is a huge admirer of the Spanish defender and what he has achieved at the west London side.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Saturday, Cole said: “Outside of Ashley Cole, I think he’s probably the best full-back I’ve played against.

“When he came to England, he played at right-back. He never switches off.

“Credit to him, it’s taken 250 games for everyone to appreciate what a top player he is.”

Chelsea are currently preparing to return to Premier League action after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The Blues are third in the Premier League table and 14 points behind leaders Manchester City as they prepare to travel to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.
